Evil Left Wing Anti Fascist Used Fake Profiles to Hunt Female Victims

A violent sex attacker and alleged member of a well known Anti Fascist organisation who preyed on lone women walking home late at night, has been jailed.

Adam Downworth carried out his attacks across the Greater Manchester area, following his victims as they walked home alone before sexually assaulting or raping them.

In some cases, the women were also robbed and one victim was beaten so badly she had to undergo facial reconstructive surgery.

Adam Downworth (born 15/12/81) of Lenham Towers, Stockport, who the Daily Bale has been informed was a member of a well known Anti Fascist organisation was found guilty following a four-week trial of two counts of rape, three counts of attempted rape, four counts of sexual assault by penetration, two counts of section 47 assault causing actual bodily harm and one count of grievous bodily harm.

HOPE not hate

He pleaded guilty to one count of section 47 assault causing actual bodily harm at an earlier hearing.

He was sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court to life imprisonment, to serve a minimum of 23 years.

Shortly after 12.40am on Sunday 16 September 2012, a 48-year-old woman was walking home along George Lane in Bredbury. Moments after she had rung a relative to let them know what time she would be arriving home, she was pulled into a wooded area at the side of the road and subjected to a vicious beating. She was then raped.

A short time later, a couple walking home found the victim staggering along George Lane. Downworth then walked out of the bushes a little further up the street. The man gave chase but Downworth was able to escape. However, he was arrested by police officers a short time later on a nearby street.

Downworth’s van was parked less than 100 yards away from the attack location.

The victim suffered significant injuries to her head and face and has had to undergo facial reconstructive surgery.

Following Downworth’s arrest on 16 September, officers searched his home address and found two mobile phones that had been stolen during attacks on a woman in Stockport in April 2012, and a woman in Gorton in May 2012.

During the course of the attack in April, the 26-year-old victim was grabbed and thrown to the floor as she walked home alone. The attacker threatened to rape her, but the victim fought back and the attacker fled the scene having stolen her handbag and mobile phone.

During the offence in May, the 22-year-old victim had also been beaten as she walked home alone and her attacker tried to rape her. However, he was disturbed enabling the victim to escape and seek help.

Officers also found an array of books within Downworth’s address relating to self-defence techniques and strangulation, forensic crime scene analysis, criminal profiling techniques and narcissistic personality disorder.

Further investigation linked Downworth to two other violent sexually-motivated attacks in the Stockport and Gorton areas of Greater Manchester in 2011 and 2012.

As part of extensive enquiries, police analysed hours of CCTV footage which was shown to capture Downworth’s van in the immediate area to four of the attacks a short time before they occurred.

Officers also found that Downworth had set up a facebook account under a facebook account under a fake profile which he used to befriend random women, many of whom accepted his friend requests even though they did not know him.

Detective Inspector Rebecca Matthews from GMPs Sexual Crime Unit said:

Downworth subjected each of his victims to vicious attacks, making it clear from not only his actions but his threats and words, that he poses a real danger to women and cannot be allowed to walk the streets.

He drove randomly round streets across Greater Manchester in his van looking for his next victim walking home alone. He would then subject these women to some of the most appalling attacks I have seen in my policing career.

When we arrested Downworth, we found a library of books at his home that gave a chilling insight into his personality and thought processes, ranging from research on law surrounding sexual offences to hiding your true personality from others.

This man has been sentenced for attacks relating to five women, who are now rebuilding their lives as they try to recover from the terrible ordeals he put them through. Due to the serious nature of Downworth⿿s offending, it is possible there may be other victims that have not come forward to police for whatever reason and if this is the case, I would urge them to do so.

Investigating sexual crimes is a priority for GMP and we have specialist officers and units dedicated solely to this work, to ensure those that commit these despicable crimes are brought to justice for their actions.

Please do not suffer in silence – if you have been a victim of a rape or sex attack, please call the police and we will support you from the moment you call us and thoroughly investigate any information you tell us.

I would also like to take this opportunity to urge women not to walk home alone late at night but to plan their journeys and to travel with friends wherever possible.

Anyone who has been a victim of rape or sexual assault is urged to call Greater Manchester Police on 101, or alternatively people can refer themselves to St Mary’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre.

St Mary’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Manchester provides a comprehensive and coordinated forensic, counselling and medical aftercare service 24/7 to anyone in Greater Manchester who has experienced rape or sexual assault.

Evil Sick Sex Attacks on Women

Details on each of the attacks

At 2.50am on Saturday 3 December 2011, a 28-year-old woman was walking home through Alexandra Park in Edgeley, Stockport when she was grabbed from behind around the throat. The attacker threatened to rape her if she moved, before tightening his grip around her neck, causing her to lose consciousness.

The attacker then dragged the victim to a secluded area of the park. As she came round she was being subjected to a violent sexual assault before the attacker again gripped her around the neck, rendering her unconscious for a second time.

The victim suffered serious injuries to her face and body including a broken nose and significant bruising.

At around 1.25am on Sunday 1 April 2012, a 26-year-old woman was walking home along Borrowdale Road in Stockport when a man jumped out of bushes and attacked her.

He threatened to rape her and the woman was thrown to the floor. The victim shouted out for help and her attacker ran off, stealing her handbag during the attack.

At around 1.20am on Saturday 12 May 2012, a 22-year-old woman was walking home through Gorton. As she walked down Tan Yard Brow, she was approached and punched repeatedly in the face by a man. Her attacker also put his hands around her neck and attempted to strangle her.

The woman, who had money in her handbag, offered for it to be taken, but was told her attacker did not want it. The woman was sexually assaulted and threatened, before the man tried to rape her. At that point, a car turned down Hyde Road shining its lights into the bushes and the woman was able to escape and run to a nearby house to call the police.

The victim had her phone stolen during the attack and suffered facial injuries.

Downworth later used the victims phone to send sickening texts of a sexual nature to a number of girls he did not know, but had earlier befriended on facebook using a fake profile.

This phone was later found at Downworths flat in Brinnington, when he was arrested on suspicion of the rape on George Lane in Bredbury on 16 September.

In the early hours of Sunday 1 July 2012, a 28-year-old woman was walking home through Debdale Park in Gorton. She was thrown to the floor and punched repeatedly to her head and body, before being sexually assaulted.

The victim lost consciousness during the attack and it is believed she was thrown in the reservoir. The woman was found injured and walking nearby to the scene by a passing taxi driver, who called the police and sought treatment for her.

The victim suffered serious injuries to her face and body including a broken nose and significant bruising.
