Alleged Left Wing Anti Fascist accused of having sex with a Shetland pony was found ‘smelling strongly of horses’
Police say Alan Barnfield was ‘sweating profusely’ and had several cans of Lynx in his bag on the night he was seen leading two ponies into a dark wooded area
A man had sex with a Shetland pony after he was seen leading it and another pony into a dark wooded area at the end of a paddock, a court heard.
Anti Fascist Alan Barnfield, described as a “sexual deviant”, was found by police “sweating profusely and smelling strongly of horses” after being called by worried residents.
In his rucksack they found several cans of Lynx deodorant, a length of white electrical cable, a handheld water sprayer, a cloth, a metal dog chain and two bottles of Lucozade.
A court heard that DNA from one of the two horses, called Sky, was found on a sample taken from 44-year-old Barfield.
He also had bestiality images and films on his mobile phone.
Owner Jodie Walton found Sky in discomfort the day after the alleged sexual assault at Oak Tree Stables in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.
Sheffield Crown Court heard that she called a vet who carried out an examination.
Prosecutor Louise Reevell said Barfield was spotted putting something around the neck of the Shetland pony and leading it and another horse to the darkened end of the paddock.
He was seen by residents who thought he was going to steal the two ponies, at around half past midnight on August 8 2012.
Prosecutor Louise Reevell said: “It is at this time the prosecution say that intercourse took place out of sight in a dark wooded area at the end of the paddock.”
Barfield, of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, said he was “just out walking” and denies sexual intercourse with an animal.
The trial continues.
